The Optical Character Reader Essay Example for Free
The Optical Character Reader EssayThe Optical Character Reader has traditionally been well-known in the area of scan of handwritten documents (preprinted such as utility files filled in with meter readings by human readers) and bear upon the numbers or text from the scanning process into reckoner readable formats through package. The OCR is one of the best methods to use when there is a need for the capture of neat handwritten documents. SAT outpourings, electronic bill calculation and MCQ quizzes are part of the applications of the OCR. This paper will however, research the OCR comparing it with other available methods/devices for data capture and evaluate the usefulness of the OCR against them.THE RESEARCHGOCR Historically, GOCR software has not been one of the toppers in this field. With high error appraises in character recognition (98% for version 0.4), it is just worth giving a test try at most. Although the subsequent versions had those bugs fixed, the efficiency of GOCR has always been lower than the other OCR software. GOCR works in two modes reading rancid black text off white backgrounds as well as reading off white text off black backgrounds. The latter was however, more difficult to program for the developers and bland has high margin of errors. Its ability to recognize handwritten characters with a lot of deviation is poor.Although much work has been done in the later versions to improve this, opthalmic character recognition accuracy is still one of the biggest issues for GOCR. The GOCR has the highest number of characters recognized incorrectly. Therefore, Is are recognized wrongly as ls and vs are recognized as us. GOCR is useful in situations where the handwriting is exceptionally neat or the document error rate is not a matter of concern (which of course will be a rare case). Also it should be bring downd that GOCR is open-source software. This means that GOCR decree is readily available free of make up. Therefore, different versions floating around are actually revisions by different programmers on the basis of their knowledge. Thus, GOCR offers a few features that are unique the ability to work with a different variety of formats of images (which is also found in others, solely with one or two omissions).Tesseract OCR One of the reviews of this software went like this It sounds like it Tesseract OCR I unusable at the current moment, but the developments made by Google in the subsequent versions leave a promising note for the future. In short, Tesseract is one of those open source optical character reading software that is not considered to be one of the most efficient software suites. In fact, one of the drawbacks of Tesseract is the command line interface with the user. This seems most absurd for software that deals with pictures and graphics. However, the software is configured to accept picture or graphics from hardware and thence automatically read it and transform it into text. This OCR software h as yet to come to a more user friendly state for it to be more popular as well as efficient. The error rate of 25% is not actually low. However, considering the interface, this is quite an achievement for developers who could not or simply did not want to delineate an interactive software to achieve 75% success in recognizing handwritten characters. The main aim of an OCR is to reduce the need for manual typing in each large volumes or in the case of transfer of data (programmers often use it as disaster recovery plans). Thus it is necessary that the software for OCR be fool-proof to high degree. It should provide accuracy, reliability as well as be able to work with deviations from normal. Both GOCR and Tesseract OCR are able to recognize characters in printed images and files, but the main problem arises in handwriting. Apart from that too, there are evident problems described above. Thus, the third software for comparison, Microsoft muniment image, coupled with Microsoft rul e book OCR capabilities overcomes these problems and provides a cost effective solution. It should be noted that this is not single software. Instead there are two complementary software working towards reaching the desired result.Microsoft Document Imaging with Microsoft Word OCR capability This is without any doubt the strongest software suit available for the purpose of accurate and effective optical character recognition. Microsoft document Imaging provides the first process service scanning the image and making it ready for the software by converting the physical input to a machine readable format. In the next step the scanned file is given to Microsoft Word. This has in-built OCR capabilities that are strong, efficient as well as user-friendly. The OCR recognizes the characters with up to a 98% accuracy level, allowing a very small room for errors. Apart from that, this software also provides the capability of recognizing handwritten characters to stay at par with the standard OCR software. It is an effective software solution with a powerful interface, speedy solution as well as a cost-effective solution. It has all the features that make it overcome the problems discussed in GOCR and Tesseract OCR. Microsoft Document Imaging and Word complement each other perfectly and thus they are the choice of any OCR requiring scenario. The capability of this suite to handle images with accuracy and speed drives up its effect greatly. It is clear from the above comparisons done that the third option has the strongest and most cost effective benefits over the other software. It is quickest and the cheapest form of input of handwritten characters into the computer so that they can also be edited. It also provides the best recognition capability of deviating characters.

Mixed-sex education Essay Example for Free
Mixed-sex genteelness EssayCoeducation, also known as Mixed-sex education, is the integrated education of young-begetting(prenominal) and female persons in the same institution under same roof. Most of the older institutions of higher education were reserved for the male students but now changed their policies to wrench coeducational. The starting line co educational institute of higher education was Oberlin College in United States, which was established in 1833. In 1844, Hillsdale College became the second college to admit mixed-sex classes to four-year degree programs. The University of Iowa became the first coeducational public or state university in the United States in 1855. We have co education in many of our universities, a few colleges and whatsoever English type schools. It is mostly non available in most of our degree colleges up to intermediate level. Co education gives useful training to boys and girls to build together. While perusing side by side in differe nt classes, they learn to co operate for common aims and purposes. After completing their education, they can easily join different professions together. They can work together for common national aims and scientific research centres. Co education is good as it develops self confidence. Boys and girls studying together can discuss their subjects and can help for each one other in understanding them well. Co education can make boys and girls competitive with each other in studies. Both can try to learn more and do better in discussions and examinations. Co education can save any(prenominal) institutions and can save money and in such a developing country like Pakistan. At present, Pakistani govt. is not in the position to contribute electricity for separate institutions for girls. Yet, co education has some disadvantages. First, it is totally against our religion. The system of co-education is not good in the Islamic States of the world. This system has been produced by the non-Mus lim states. The concept of Hijab is not there, but in our religion Islam, Hijab (parda) is clearly ordered as presented in the Holy Quran in Surah Nisa.Meeting, talks, relations and other non-islamic tasks between the males and females (Muslim na-mahram) is prohibited in Islam. A famous Hadith, When a na- mahram man and woman are standing alone, the third one is evil (Ebleese) among them. Finally, I will conclude that coeducation has some advantages as well as disadvantages. It is necessary to make a proper use of co education in our institutions of higher learning. It is possible to get the benefits of co education and avoid most of the disadvantages.

Preparation of Identification by Ir and Nmr Spectroscopy Essay Example for Free
Preparation of Identification by Ir and Nmr Spectroscopy try outThe reactive sexually transmitted disease chloride can then be treated with a primary or secondary aminoalkane to give the amide along with HCl, which reacts with the excess amine to give an alkylammonium chloride salt. The mechanism of this process is shown on the following page in Scheme 22 pic Scheme 2 To carry out this reaction, the apparatus shown in Figure 1 allow be assembled. The apparatus must be dry, since thionyl chloride will react with water to give sulfur dioxide and hydrogen chloride. The sharp chloride will then be cooled to room temperature and dissolved in anhydrous vinyl ether. Ice-cold diethylamine will be added as a solution in anhydrous ether to form the amide. The resulting ether mixture will washed with aqueous sodium hydroxide (to remove any excess acid chloride), then washed with hydrochloric acid (to remove any excess diethylamine). The resulting ether solution of DEET will be dried and evaporated to yield the crude product, which will then be purified by towboat chromatography to afford pure DEET. The percent yield from m-toluic acid will be determined and the product will be analyzed by transmission infrared spectroscopy (IR) as a neat sample using NaCl plates5 to confirm its structure by (1) looking at the major absorptions and comparing them to a correlativity table6 and (2) by comparing the spectrum to that of an authentic sample.Thionyl chloride is toxic and corrosive Do not breath the vapors Use in a hood When heating a reaction apparatus, be sure that it is open to the air so that rack build up and subsequent rupture of the apparatus does not occur. When heating liquids, suck sure the liquid is stirred (or a boiling chip is added) to prevent bumping. When performing an extraction, make sure to vent the separatory funnel shape often to prevent pressure build-up. The apparatus shown in Figure 1 was assembled. The 10-mL reaction flask was charged with 0. 275 g of m-toluic acid (0. 0020 mol) and 0. 30 mL of thionyl chloride (0. 492 g, 0. 0041 mol). The condenser water was started, and the mixture was piano heated with stirring on an aluminum block (block temp 90 oC) until boiling started. The reaction mixture was then gently boiled for about 15 minutes. After the boiling period was finished, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature. 4. 0 mL of anhydrous ether were added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature until a homogeneous mixture was obtained. To this solution was added (dropwise over a 15 minute period) a solution of 0. 6 mL of cold (0 oC) diethylamine (0. 462 g, 0. 0063 mol) in 1. 33 mL of anhydrous ether. During the addition, a thick white cloud of diethylamine hydrochloride was formed. After complete addition, the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for about 10 minutes. 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide (2 mL) was then added, and the reaction mixture was stirred for an additional 15 minutes at room temperature, then poured into a separatory funnel and allowed to separate. The aqueous layer was discarded, and the organic layer was washed with an additional portion of 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide (2 mL), followed by a portion of 10% hydrochloric acid (2 mL).The organic layer was washed with water (2 mL), dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated to yield crude N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide as dark brown liquid. The crude product was filtered through a short alumina column using hexane as the eluent ( 5 mL). The hexane solution was evaporated to give 0. 340 g of pure N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide as a yellow liquid. Reaction of m-toluic acid with thionyl chloride, followed by diethylamine produced 0. 340 g of a yellow liquid the IR spectrum of which unequivocally showed the presence of the amide carbonyl functional group at 1633 cm-1. In addition, absorptions due to acyclic C-H (2980 2880 cm-1), and aromatic C=C (at 1585 cm-1). The IR spectrum is attached to this report. These data are consistent with the structure of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), shown in Figure 2 below pic Figure 2 N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) In addition, the IR of the product closely corresponds with that of an authentic sample of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) shown in the lab text. 9 Also, the 1H-NMR shows the presence of four (4) aromatic protons in the region 7. 3 7. 1 ppm, as well as a three (3) proton singlet at 2. 35 ppm, which corresponds to the benzylic methyl group. The presence of two ethyl groups is clear shown by the presence of two quartets which integrate to 2 protons each at 3. 53 and 3. 24 ppm, and two triplets which integrate to 3 protons each at 1. 23 and 1. 09 ppm.

Report on Organizational Structure and finance of British Airways
Report on Organizational Structure and finance of British AirwaysThis report aims to give an analysis of the physical composition of the British Airways airway. It will discuss the organisational structure of British Airways and its sources of finance that is where it pounds its money from, how it is used and whether a value or a loss is being do. The market the organisation operates in and its counsel pillowcase will also be discussed. The quality of the good or do provided will also be highlighted and an analysis of the supply image that is showing the forms of scattering will be given. In conclusion, the report will summarise the information on the organisation and a view of its trading in the last cinque years followed by recommendations on how I feel the line may proceed in the current economic climate. The report was compiled by drawing literature from the British Airways website, lecture notes and relevant Business Organisation books.HistoryThe British Airways, a n organisation that operates in the Travel Market is the largest operating airline business in the coupled Kingdom. It has its base at Heathrow Airport in London. Although the airline has been operational since 1919, developments e veryplace the years saw the merging of the British Airways Corp. (BOAC) and British European Airways (BEA) in 1974 guide to the establishment of the current British Airways,(Corke, 1986). The organisation operates both domestic and international flights to about 600 destinations around the world. This is the reason why it is one of the worlds leading airlines. The British Airline is a Public Limited Company (PLC). It was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1987. Following its privatisation, the airline expanded its operations and managed to take over some competitors such as British Caledonian within the same year and Dan-Air in 1992. During the late 1990s, British Airlines established the One World alliance as it became more competitive to win mor e customers and had themselves high profit margins during the millennium labelling the airline a major full-service carrier, (Corke 1986).Organisational StructureMintzeberg et al, (1979) defines a note as an organisational entity that is licitly set up to provide goods and services to customers in a coun turn up. He further states that an organisation consists of a large account of people bringing unneurotic ideas to achieve common goals using a variety of tactics to come up with short-term and long-term strategies for a businesss future success. Since British Airways is a unrestricted limited connection (PLC), its type of business organisation is the private sector. Being a Public Limited Company, British Airways is delivered by sh areholders who buy shares from the computer memory exchange market and boast separate legal identity from the business. If the business goes into debt each shareholder will only lose the amount of share pileus they invested and not their persona l possessions. Due to the airline being a private limited society, the government is not involved in its running. Its aims and objectives are to maximise profit in the long-term by focusing on improving and maintaining outstanding customer service and becoming the worlds leading premium airline. An organisational structure is important be take a shit it determines how the organisation will be run in order to meet its aims and objectives, (Cunnee, 2008). He defines an organisational structure as the number of ways used in a business to set up division and specialization of labour focusing on maintaining co-ordination to achieve the same targets. British Airways has a flat structure essence it has a small number of management takes that a wide span of control. The airline has adopted a divisional structure mainly because of the nature of its business which is customer focused. The advantages of this method are that it gives clear identification of job roles, less(prenominal) time c onsumed in decision making and easy supervision for managers betwixt departments. This increases capability as contrastive people are given the opportunities to effectively utilise their various skills, but it can also be in efficient because the managers have a large number of subordinates reporting to them therefore increasing their workload. On the other hand, employees may not feel secure about their jobs as they are being strictly watched over and may be de-motivated to work effectively. Another shortfall of this method is that each department may focus on its own objectives which may conflict with other departments, (Martin, 2010).Sources of FinanceBritish Airways is financed by issuing shares to the general public on the stock exchange market and from standardised bond paper issues. The bonds which have low interest rates could be used as a long-term fund which can be changed into share capital of the company during times of bankruptcy, (Rutterford, 2007). In 2009, the Market Watch reported that British Airways got a boost of 600 million through the issuance of convertible bond and an agreement with its indemnity fund to release bank guarantees back to the airline. Of this amount 300 million worth of convertible bonds due to mature in 2014 and will be convertible into 15% to 20% of its share capital. The other 300 million which will only be accessible in the case of bankruptcy will leave British Airways access to bank funding of 3330 million up June 2012, (Market Watch, 2009).Like most public companies, British Airways aims and objectives are to maximise profit. In 2008, British Airways make a profit of 726m while its 2009 Income Statement shows a loss of 358m. Part of the loss is due to the effects of the recession that affected a large number of United Kingdoms businesses and the whole world. Because of the recession, there was a high increase in open fire scathes due to limited resources. This left British Airways with no choice but to buy the fuel regardless of the price as it is important for its business. Fewer consumers were able to afford travelling expenses due to high costs. The wage bill of the company also had a great impact during such hard times. The employees demanded high wages for them to be able to afford their own personal needs as well. The differences between the airlines management and the employees led to strikes that also contributed to the loss of profits by the company. The strikes led to a destruction of many consumers travel plans that has also led to unfavourable public image causing a negative influence on the airlines market. The conflict of objectives between the airlines management and its employees still remains unresolved. In 2009, most of the use of goods and services expenses were made up of fuel and oil costs and employee costs of 2969(m) and 2139 (m) respectively. The loss made in 2009 was carried forward through to 2010 of which a loss of 425(m) was made.merchandising prudenceMa rketing is the identification and provision of customers needs at the same time ensuring that the organisation makes a profit. Marketing management is essential for a business such as British Airways as it allows for flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the market. In this strategy, the organisation is always assessing the needs of its customers in order to design harvest-tides of burst value. There are many different strategies a business could adopt for better marketing management and this could be done through the marketing mix. Marketing mix is the identification of the 4/7Ps. In this report I am only going to talk about the four main Ps. The 4Ps are the carrefour being made, the place it is going to be provided, promotional strategies put in place and the price to be paid by consumers, (Kotler et al, 2009). The nature of the business of British Airways is to provide flight services to consumers across various places around the world. The airlines product strategy in cludes flight services that are offered in various packages for example, the differentiation between the business, first and economic classes. This is done to satisfy each consumer as the airline has considered and provided for different classes of the economic system. Promotion is the extra cost of a business to differentiate itself from competitors and try to win consumers attention by persuading them to choose them over their competitors. British Airways has branded itself as an airline that provides a luxury, safety, reliable and convenient service that transfers people to different destinations which is why one would want to go out and travel with them.Price is the value placed on the exchange of goods or services during the marketing process. Customers present up money in return to satisfy their needs, (Smith, 2007). The price should be establish on the quality of the product, taking into account customers expectations. However, charging a low price to a product worth more m ay not be beneficial to the company as that would lead to a loss in electromotive force profit (Kotler et al 2009) while on the other hand charging a high price for a product not worth it will cause a reduction in demand and bad public image. British Airways price policy entitles one to get what they paid for with the freedom of choice in the payment package for the type of flight service they would like. The airlines pricing strategy is based on three class seats provided by the airline. These are premium, medium-value and economy strategies. With the premium strategy, business and executive consumers are given a high quality service being charged a high price for it. British Airways competitors in this service are other giant airlines such as Virgin and American Airlines. The medium-value strategy consists of a standard charge with quality less than the premium strategy but more than of the economy strategy. The economy strategy provides just the basic services with extra benefits like cheer and free food for thought and drinks adding to the quality and advantage of British Airways brand image, (Kotler et al, 2007). However, the airline has revised its pricing policy to competitive based pricing meaning it charges fares at the same level as competitors or lower. The airline wants to compete with rival low-cost airlines on short-haul European flights. Free food will still be offered although a fuel surcharge of 8 per single journey (16 return) has to be paid by customers on top of their regular payments, (British Airways,). Another advantage of British Airways pricing strategy is that low-cost airline ticket prices a cheap when you book them well in advance but as it gets towards travelling dates they become very expensive, even much more expensive than British Airways. With British Airways the price will relatively still be the same until the week one travels. tonusQuality is a word which is defined differently by different people. From the different meani ngs, quality is the sum of all the features of a product or service that ensure that the customers needs are met appropriately. The products or services should be at least worth the price charged on them likewise, the quality of employees could be based on their performance with regards to the given tasks, (Mauch, 2010). British Airways adopted a high quality service approach although it eventually came to conflict with cost-cutting measurements that had to be put in place due to increased competition. The service provided by British Airways is flights from one destination to another and its brand core is Quality flights for all people meaning it tries to satisfy and accommodate all different kinds of consumers. As a consumer you get the feel of being a business man and executive traveller and the airline has the glamour any traveller would dream of. Being a fast mode of transport, less time is consumed for people in a hurry, you are secure of being at your destination at the estim ated time shown when purchasing you ticket. Most people who fly with British Airways are the business man as suggested by its brand, although all different cultures are welcome on board. Marketing wise, the airline offers luxury travel with safety and comfort whilst flying. Despite increased competition and cost-cutting, the airline still remains one of the best airlines because low-cost airlines such as Easy-Jet and Raynair do not offer extras or as much comfort and credential like British Airways. This is for example, Low-cost airlines only provide cheaper fares but they do not offer luxury comfort like TV entertainment or free food and drinks on flights and business seats compared to British Airways.Supply ChainA supply chain consists of a link between different channels of distribution that is, from the raw materials to the final customer. Supply Chain Management includes five key areas that are transportation, suppliers, warehousing, meeting orders and retailers (Chopra et al, 2010). British Airways operates in the final product that is providing the service to customers. This makes the supply chain shorter and more effective due to the provision of direct services and saves time on any occurring problems as they can be dealt with quickly. The airline operates from many different locations with its major base at Londons Heathrow Airport. The customers have the strength of buying that can be divided into two main separate that are price sensitivity and relative bargaining power. The price sensitive buyers will look at an alternative option and compare prices charged to interchangeable products and choose the one which is more beneficial. Therefore holiday packages have been introduced to overcome big volume products and for the airline to gain control over its supply chain and strengthen its brand.British Airways tries to satisfy all its customers with various needs from the different classes it provides for. Value is added in its supply chain process by providing different lounges and on board food and wine menus for the first class seats. Also the regular customers of the business class seats get blue, silver or gold card game and executive lounge at all main airports. Overall, the airline provides a good service for all fliers that is giving them free food and drinks, different types of entertainment including two in flight magazines, movie collections, radio channels and TV programs,British Airways target market is both domestic and global. Although the airline welcomes customers from all walks of life, it has made a lot of effort in maintaining its business and first class sections where it maximises its profits and increases its competitiveness at the same time customers who use these two sections get real value for their money.ConclusionDue to increasing competition in the flying industry, consumers expect a reduction in the prices charged which would cause the companies to adulterate the quality service provided. Although Easy-Jet and Raynair seem to have succeeded, they have had to compromise the quality of the service by making it basic with nothing much to offer isolated from the reduced fare. Because of its outstanding service the British Airways has remained competitive in the current economic climate. In the three of the last five years that are 2006, 2007 and 2008 British Airways made profits of 451(m), 304(m) and 726(m) respectively, however in the other two years, 2009 and 2010 it made losses of 358(m) and 425(m). This is mainly due to the effects of the recession that started towards the end of 2008.The airline has managed to hold water the recession despite having made profit losses. I believe it has the potential to recover from its financial crisis and maintain its position as one of the leading airlines worldwide. The management and employee issues need to be addressed sooner than later in order to avoid strikes that will further increase the financial crisis of the company and also ne gatively affect its image in the market.

Usually the market is only owned by specia arguings, but Herta wants to democratize the vegetal protein. While this product seems unusual for the brand, she highlights that Nestl is not new in this field since it owns Krupa, a product facility for production of such products. Le Bon Vgtarien has near(prenominal) than 10 different recipes elaborated with vegetal proteins and each product is sold for almost 2,75 with a weight of 150 to 200g.With this new product, Herta is aiming at flexitarians (30% of the population in France) who try to reduce their meat consumption, but also to vegetarians, who don t eat meat (2%) and vegans, who dont eat product from living organisms (0,5%). Herta wants to attract 30% of the vegetarian catering market of supermarkets. It is aiming at families who want to eat healthily and who want to reduce their consumption of animal proteins according to Catherine Petilon, market director at Herta. In Nestls opinion, the offer of fresh deli products doesnt fit with the needs of the french engrossrs. The consumers dont really know the brands which ar positioned on the market of vegetal protein foods such as Sojasun, Cral and ford Veggie. The marketing director is convinced that Herta has a role to play on this market thanks to its notoriety. Indeed, the brand bets on its proximity to the meat market to erase the concern of a part of consumers to eat vegetal meat. But the sales are increasing by 10% each. Herta estimates that the sales are going to be multiplied by two within 2 years. In Germany, this market al sterilize represents 140 million of euros, while it is still only 28 million in France. The fresh deli products belonging to the vegetarian category like soya steaks wear seen their sales increased by 11.9 % in mass retail in 2015 to reach 15.42 billion euros, according to IRI. Soy based products account for 2/3 of the sales. Over the same period, the overall fresh deli product market has also seen an augmentation of 5,6 % of its sale r regular(a)ue. The market is still relatively new in France, and the company is not ready to r eveal its sales figures.2.5 general situation of the societyOver the last years, signifislang changes have occurred in French food consumption habits. French people move to eat much at home and in less time (according to euromonitor). But french people also spend less time cooking and want to eat more healthily at the same time. However, these differences of consumption also depend on criteria such as age. Hence, young adults (18-34) consume more processed foods than senior people. They also use more delivery services and eat out more often. Besides, the generation born between 1977 and 1986 spends 8 times more coin on processed food than the generation from 1920-1930 at the same age. This food consumption is the result of new aspirations which can be ethical, ecological, etc. This generation has to track with the contradictions of the recommendations of nutrition from professionals and the pressure of the marketing of the government and of the food-business (Study from Agrim er national French establishment of agricultural products, 2012).Therefore, 56% of the French say that they eat less meat compared to previous years. For 46% of interviewed people, this is because meat is too expensive. 35% say that industrial breeding doesnt respect animal welfare and 31% that meat is not skinny for health. Then, 26% quote the food scandals and 19% the respect of the environment. Among this panel, 61% eat meat at least once a day and 9% eat meat less than once a week. Now, 30% of French people are qualified as flexitarian. According to Terra eco (a specialized magazine), 26% of French people would be ready to become vegetarian.1/2 French people occasionally consume vegetarian products and 1/5 vegan products. 1/5 declares themselves to be neo vegetarian. Nevertheless, 2/5 never have a meal without meat or fish. The profile of the typical vegan consumer is female, young and from a higher Socio-Professional Category. Above all, they look for rock-loving balanced and natural foods, which also respect the animal welfare, and also mistrust the food-industry. However, neo vegetarians prefer organic shops and brands. They also buy more in small local shops, sometimes up to twice as much as in supermarkets. (according to a report from arcane research).2.6 Who are the principal(prenominal) competitors? What are the primary(prenominal) differences? To better understand the market, it is important to understand who the other competitors are. There are two different types of competitors the ones from specialized shops, whose products have created the market, and the others which are sold in the same conditions as Hertas products and are more direct competitors.La manage ClaireLa Vie Claire is a chain of organic food stores. However, indirectly it will challenge X Hertas brand and attract a part of the vegetarian and vegan consumers. The product benefits from the very healthy watch of the brand which is seen as more trustworthy in this field, and whICH is specialized in this type of product. That is the reason why the product can be a petite more expensive (2.91 per 150g). Nevertheless, the visibility of the product is far smaller than Hertas and the product seems to have some nutritional issues since it cant really be a su bstitute for meat since there are not enough proteins in it, and that it contains also far too much fat. grillroom vegetal by CralFigure 3 Picture of Cereals productTable 3 Nutrition value of the soy and wheat steak by Grill VegetalCharacteristicsBenefitsDisadvantagesMedium price 3.07 for 180gLarge range of product 7Rehydrated soy and wheatPositioning Specialized FoodA itsy-bitsy more fat and by and boastfully unsaturated 8,5g against 6g in Hertas productUnknown by most consumers6,1g of FibersOnly sold in specialized shopsThe product can be seenminimalistic PackagingLooks more like meat by the aspect and the packagingMade in FranceSpecifies the absence of additives such as food colourings and preservatives.Good get along of proteins 17g against 16g in Hertas product(Source Grill Vegetal, 2016)Just like La Vie Claire, Grill Vegetal by Cral is only sold in specialized shops. The product seems to respond well to the consumers demand on all highlighted points by consumers. It also looks like meat and has a decent amount of proteins even if it is still less important than meat. The strong points of the product are the absence of GMO and the origin of the soy. The price is even less expensive than Hertas with only 2,63 per 150g. Despite all its strength, the product may suffer from its brand not being as famous as Herta.Veggie by CarrefourFigure 5 Picture of Carrefours productTable 5 Nutrition value of the soy steak by Veggie (Carrefour)CharacteristicsBenefitsDisadvantagesMedium price 2.20 for 200gLarge range of product 16Rehydrated soyPositioning Carrefour SupermarketsA little more fat and mostly unsaturated 8,8g against 6g in Hertas productThe real product cant be seen at all6,6g of FibersThe product can only be bought at CarrefourA little less protein than Hertas (14g).Does not communicate on the origin of the raw products(Source Veggie, 2016)Veggie was created by Carrefour in 2015 to become a competitor to Sojasun. They chose to have a very low pric e in comparison to other similar products. As a consequence, the quality seems to be a little lower. However, the range of products is very large and Carrefour is of great renown in THE food business and distribution. Therefore, Veggie may become an important competitor to Herta despite being only sold in Carrefours supermarkets.2.7 Perceived quality of the productA focus group of 6 people have been conducted on the radical of Hertas new range, and more particularly the soy and wheat steak. The participants were all between 20 and 24 years old and were postgraduate students. This panel was selected because it was composed of 3 men and 3 women, and because more educated people tend to be the major consumers of this type of product according the studies.Among the panel, only 2 people had time-tested vegetal meat. They are not common users but verbalize that they rather enjoyed the product. All of them said that they would buy the Hertas product. Half of them said spontaneously tha t they liked the packaging. They also agreed on the fact that green was a simple but good choice of colour since it seems more natural. However, none of them knew that Herta had made a new vegetal brand, and it was a bit hard for them to associate Herta with vegetal product. Still, what concerned them the most about the product was the vegan tag. They found it very restrictive in a way that in may repel them. When the benefits of the products were asked, half of them talked about gas emission. Also, the group was very divided concerning the question of animal and vegetal proteins. Some of them fought proteins from animal were better while other said the exact opposite, and some did not intervene. Regarding the drawbacks of the product, they highlighted that the soy production was done in Brazil and that is was not as good as pretended for the environment. Moreover, they associated the soy from Brazil with GMO soy. They also argue about the transformation process and the factory work carried out to get the product and said it was not good for the environment neither, and that the people working in this factories were probably not paid enough. Before the nutrition value topic could have been addressed, they asked for the tag to get a clear melodic theme of what was inside the product. To do a comparison, they also asked for the tag of a real steak. They decided that there were more proteins in meat and less fat in vegan steak. Moreover, they pointed out the higher concentration in salt and carbohydrates in the Herta product.Concerning the price, the opinions were very mixed. Some would pay between 3 and 3.5 euros while others would only pay rough 2 euros. Those who were ready to invest less money told that they would start by comparing the price with other competitors. To conclude on the session, one of the major issue with the product was the vegan report which was considered as too extreme by the panel. It seems that people may not be ready to go from meat d iet to vegan diet even if this not on regular basis. The psychological impact of the word on people could repel them from the product. Also, the image of the brand is really associated with meat in the mind of the consumers, it will be something to work on for Herta. Moreover, whereas everyone knew Herta very well, none of them knew the vegetal range of product. Hence, it seems that the communication around Le bon vgtal could be improved. Nevertheless, the product looked appealing for everyone, even if they had restraints about the conception of the product.2.8 Conclusion of part 1Herta is clearly trying to herald the future trends. The brand understood that an important part of the future of fresh deli food relies on meat substitutes, and chose to be part of this new market rather than opposing itself to the new ways of consuming. Being one on of the first on the market could also help Herta which is now an old French brand and need to show innovation to keep a dynamic image in t he eye of the consumer. The major issue for them is to succeed to support the upper limit of consumers to this changing without losing them on the path. However, other brands such as Veggie may be fierce competitors for the future, not to mention the other brands already positioned in the market.3.1 A lack in terms of nutrition valueThe first thing that could be a problem for the future of the product is the quantity. indeed, the pack contains 2 steaks measure only 75g each which means a total amount of soy and wheat of 150g. for hertas product, for 100g, there are exactly 150 kcal, corresponding to only 112,5 kcal for 75g.a beef steak in france has an average of 20g of proteins and between 5 to 15g of fat according to the steak (per 100g). often a steak weighs 125g meaning that is has even more proteins and fat in it. for a steak of only 100g and 10g of fat, there are 170 kcal. The difference in calories is very important and could cause a difference in the perception of satiety e specially realizen that animal proteins give a more important feeling of satiety (Douglas Paddon-Jones., 2008). If the consumer after consuming the product is still hungry, it will affect its set about and he will be less likely to buy it again.moreover, all competitors use a quantity which varies between 180 and 200g while some of them focus more on the product of high quality aspect (grill vegetal, la vie claire) and are seen as less accessible products. If a comparison was to be made, it would probably weaken the position of herta who wants to be closer to the average person. The price is indeed higher than other competitors price if the calculation is proportional to the quantity. the results are even more disconcerting when comparing convergence (1.10 per 100g) and herta (1.83 per 100g).keeping the price in the average of the competitors is very important for the brand. if people have the choice between sojasuns product and hertas product and consider them to be at the sam e price if considering the quantity, in would surely harm herta. the significant price difference of veggie by carrefour and herta is too important. the product from le bon vgtal could be blackballly affected by this competition. indeed, the main reason why people tend to consume less meat is the cost. 46% percent of the people who eat less meat are motivated by the price (according to a study hold up by Mediaprism).3.2 Consider adding information to the packagingConcerning GMO, if the brand actually uses non GMO soy, it will probably be better to write it on the packaging, even if it is not highlighted. Indeed, as the focus group showed, people are concerned about the origin of the product and particularly soy. This is an important question considering there are not much French soy production. Moreover, the product has a rather high proportion of proteins compared to competitors and also a low level of fat. The brand should therefore consider writing a slogan such as the benefits of meat without its disadvantages. Then, on the other side of the packaging, the brand should explain how the product is better for health thanks to its nutritional value, but also how it is good for the environment. However, while doing that, the brand should always consider its positioning and should not be too harsh with the meat industry since it is Hertas main revenue sources. However, if the brand judges it too dangerous, another possibility would be to just compare the nutritional value to the products of the competitors and praise Hertas product.3.3 A survey for more accuracyTo get a more accurate idea, a survey was made. This survey was addressed to people who are living in France. These people are mostly between 18-25 years old and are of a rather high education level. The first part of the survey is about questioning the intension of the terms Vegetarian and Vegan to understand what people associate with these words and if they sound rather positive or negative.Hence, t o the question What does the word vegetarian actually bode?, people tend to give a definition of the word for the vast majority of them. To the question What is the connotation associated to the word vegetarian for you?, more than 55% have a rather good to good opinion of the idea. Half of the rest is neutral while the other half has a negative idea of the word. However, to the question What does the word vegan actually bespeak? the majority tends to give a definition, while a significant number of people (around 25%) associate it with the notion of extremism, and that by themselves, only responding to an open question. What is even more astonishing, is the connotation of the term vegan, especially in comparison of the results of the same question with Vegetarianism. Therefore, around 65% of people have a rather negative to negative opinion of the word, while almost all the others have a neutral opinion of it. The significant difference between the two terms in peoples mind is conf irmed by the question would you buy vegetarian/vegan products?. 65% of people would buy vegetarian product while only 50% would buy a vegan product. The second part of the survey focused on the product and the perception people have of it. To the question, would you buy this product?, showing only the picture of Hertas product, only 28% of people would buy it. This percentage is very weak and lower than what could have been expected. The following question asked to justify the choice helps to get a better idea of what people really think. The people who would not consume the product justify their choice with multiple reasons. One of them is the brand itself. Surprisingly, while it has a very good image among French people, some of the people interrogated said that they dont trust Herta to make a Vegetal product. Moreover, several people are indisposed(p) to consuming soy. separate people dont have any interest for the product and a significant number actually doesnt like the shape of the product. They say that if they want a steak, they would buy a steak with meat, and not a substitute. Finally, this part deals with the price people would be ready to pay for the product. The results are rather homogeneous since every person who responded to this question would invest between 2 to 3 euros for the product. This result is very close to the actual price of the product. To get more precision, the last question was exactly the same but showing two other products from direct competitors SojaSun and Veggie by Carrefour while also communicating their prices (respectively 3.50 euros and 2.20 euros). This question was askeed to put the people in a more real context where they can have access to other products. Hence when considering only people who would be ready to buy the product, the large majority of them would pay 2.50 euros for it while very few of them would be ready to invest more or invest less money in the product.3.4 Analysis of the resultsThe results that em erge from this survey confirm that the actual price is close to what people would be ready to pay for and that maybe the product could benefit from a repulse decrease of its price. Indeed, Herta is a brand for everyone, it cannot be as expensive as another brand of higher range products such as SojaSun or some other specialized competitors. Nevertheless, the price of Carrefour Veggie seems very low and most of the people were ready to invest a little more money in Hertas product than in Veggie after having seen the price of the product by Carrefour. Also, the Vegan tag question raised after the analysis of focus group was more thorough explored with the survey. It is clear that the concerns shared by the focus group were also shared by the surveyed people. The connotation of the term vegan and the associations made around it give it a less appealing look than vegetarian. I would therefore advise to change vegan for vegetarian. In addition, some people seem a bit reluctant when it co mes to soy. Keeping a good range of products where not all vegetal products come from soy seems a good idea.Despite the consistency of the results, the panel was only of 20 people. This means that the results are not completely reliable and should be treated with the utmost care. Carrying out another study by the group Herta on a more important population should en

Marketing Mix Analysis Of Le Bistrot Pierre Restaurant Marketing Essay
Marketing Mix Analysis Of Le Bistrot Pierre Restaurant Marketing Essay cosmosMarketing mix is used to describe the combination of different market activities that a work does to best meet the needs of the market it is targeting (Jobber and Fahy, 2009). At first, the trade mix was compounded of 4Ps starting with the increase, price, place and promotion. Thereafter other elements were added to these tools and these elements were people, mold and physical evidence. Considering the added elements, the marketing mix of 7Ps forms a tool that businesses use to satisfy the needs of costumers in the market it targets. Accordingly, the purpose of this report is to analyse how Le Bistrot Pierre, a French restaurant on Mill Lane, in Leicester uses the marketing mix. Identifying where this restaurant succeeds in using the 7Ps and where it fails and proposing what improvements cease be made. The main product in Le Bistrot Pierre is the food and drinks menu. The products must provide good va lue for money for customers and be of a graduate(prenominal) forest to entice the customers to want to spend and to make a return visit. This restaurants food and drinks menu be of a very high standard. The website notes that the managing team of the restaurant often go to France to taste new foods and drinks to offer to their customers. Le Bistrot Pierre also offers a eat menu to its customers at selected branches.Unfortunately, Le Bistrot Pierre does not offer a childrens food menu. However, if the restaurant was to offer a childrens menu it would entice families to visit the restaurant knowing that they would not save to buy their children and adults meal only for a lot of it to be wasted. Furthermore, offering a childrens menu would promote the restaurants family friendly atmosphere and increase overall profits. As mentioned above Le Bistrot Pierre offers a breakfast menu, however it only offers this menu at its Leamington Spa, Harrogate, Stockton Heath and Stratford-Upon-A von branches. Therefore, its customers in places like Nottingham and Leicester do not demand the opportunity to taste this menu. Furthermore, although these 4 branches offer breakfast menus they all open at different times, for instance, Stratford-Upon-Avon offers its breakfast menu from 7am on weekdays whereas Leamington Spa only offers its breakfast menu on weekends (Le Bistrot Pierre, 2010). One problem with this is that customers who are travelling throughout the UK and see a Le Bistrot Pierre restaurant may assume that they can get a breakfast then realise that the particular branch they eat up gone to does not offer this service. Though Szymanski, et al (1993) suggest that marketing standardisation crosswise business branches is still under constant debate, the effect of giving customers mixed perceptions about opening times and breakfast service across cities may be problematic. Therefore to ensure that customers have a good customer experience at all times the chain should offer the breakfast menu at all its chains and at the same times. The PriceIt is important that the price should be competitive however the food offe blushful should also make up the amount of money that the customer is spending on it. The lunch menu at Le Bistrot Pierre according to the website is 9.75 for two stemmas and 11.75 for three courses (Le Bistrot Pierre, 2010). These prices are sane when one looks at other French style restaurants in Nottingham. For instance, French Livings lunch time menu offers a two course meal for 8.50 and a three course meal for 10.50 (French Living 2010). In addition to this, Le Mistral in Nottingham offers a 2 course lunch menu for 8.90 and 3 course lunch for 10.90 (Le Minstral 2010). In regard the wine menu at Le Bistrot Pierre, they offer their cheapest white wine at 13.75 and the most expensive at 27.60, and for their tearing wine, their cheapest is 17.95 and their most expensive 61.75. This seems reasonable when compared with Le Mistral several(prenominal) other French restaurant in Nottingham that offers their cheapest white wine at 13.95 and their most expensive at 45.50, and for their red wine their cheapest is 13.95 and their most expensive is 45.60.The PlacePlace is concerned with the location so that the customer can buy the product with ease, and its accessibility to the store is another important aspect. In the case of the restaurant it ideally should be in a central place. This means that it is in an area of high exposure for capability customers, be they on foot or in a car. In regard to Le Bistrot Pierre, they are located centrally in all their 8 locations. These locations are in different counties in the UK such as, Derby, Harrogate, Leamington Spa, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Stockton Heath and Stratford-Upon-Avon. Similarly, a new branch is being opened in Yorkshire, providing a wider reach to customers around the UK. A negative aspect of Le Bistrot Pierre is that it does not offer a car parki ng facility at any of its chains and so if someone wishes to park their car they will have to pay high central city prices. One potential improvement for future restaurants within this convention would be to have a car parking facility to entice customers from the outskirts of cities to visit them. The PromotionPromotion involves different items and the ways in which businesses communicate their products to the customer showing the benefits of buying their products. Le Bistrot Pierre has 2 very popular promotions they do daily, the first is the Early Bird and Pre-Theatre menu which consists of 2 courses before 7pm and be 13.90. The second is the Prix Fixe Evening with a glass of St. Jean wine which costs 15.50. In regard to special events, Le Bistrot Pierre offers the Soire Gastronomique menu on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month for 21.90 and the Dine with Wine 3 course menu, each course comes with a specially matched wine for 26.90. In addition to this, Le Bistrot Pierre also promotes its brand via gift cards that customers can purchase for their family and friends to go and try the restaurants food and drink. The PeoplePeople includes everyone who is connected to the product. This involves employees, customers, management and the business owners therefore everyone has an important role in making the business succeed. The restaurant need to have qualified chefs and staff who can present the product to the customers and are experts in French cuisine. Le Bistrot Pierre details on their website the type of person they wish to work them, noting that they wish to employ people who are friendly, enthusiastic, grave working and care about giving excellent customer service in a busy restaurant environment. Le Bistrot Pierres website has several reports from journalists promoting the superior quality of their food. Furthermore, Le Bistrot Pierre uses the media and journalists to promote their offers and competitions for free evening meals. The ProcessProcess focus es on the activities done to the product before it is provided to the customer and the method or the process used to provide the service. The main element in process is time, if the process takes long, the sale of the product will be affected. Interestingly, the Le Bistrot Pierre team visits some suppliers in order to ensure the health of the livestock purchased. This evidently expresses the concern that the management have towards providing the customers with their monies worth. Accordingly, the quicker the process is, the more appreciated the product. In the restaurant website news section, an article taken from Leicester and mercury newspaper dated 3rd June 2010 shows an appreciation to this process of being quick and flawless. The only slight let take in mentioned by the writer Gary Mitchell was that when he ordered chocolate mousse for his desert, he ended up with an Orange chocolate he did not order. The Physical attestPhysical evidence can be defined as the experience in the use of either service or product. For example, brochures or pamphlets that describe the product to the customer to enable him to know what he is buying and its qualities. Also, the restaurant is furnished in a very warm way in which the high and midpoint class individuals will be comfortable dining and wining. Moreover, the arrangement of the hall can be adjusted to suit family seating. This means customers of different categories can obtain convenience in Le Bistrot Pierre. In the case of the different restaurant servings, it is described in its various menu cards for starters, main courses, desserts, and drinks.ConclusionIn general, Le Bistrot Pierre used all the 7Ps of the marketing mix to meet the needs of the customers, though it slightly failed to use them fully as Gary Mitchells article points out. better the quality of the service, adding childrens menu and creating home delivery meals, would help to increase the popularity of the restaurant though it has already set a g ood reputation in gastronomy as the restaurant declares it in the website.Furthermore, Le Bistrot Pierre may preferably consider putting the breakfast menu in all branches that do not have this menu yet. This should be supported by specific timing for the breakfast start in all branches. Finally, Le Bistrot Pierre do not have car park and may lose some customers. They could try to create arrangements (or contract) with the nearest car park and tell the customers they have free parking. This will go to as a means to entice potential customers and increase business for the restaurant.
